Get to know me

Hello i'm Demi DTC-CDT, CHWI, your dog training coach.

When trusting someone with your dog you want to know they have experience, both on paper and in real life. You can find all my certifications in our albums on our Facebook page. I also continue to refresh my knowledge regularly, joining webinars on various topics and attending in person learning days for professional trainers. As a professional I am always learning and I strongly believe that’s how it should be if you are to be trusted with peoples fur babies.

I have over 20 years experience owning and working with dogs. I have worked in the canine industry since I was 16. Starting in boarding kennels, to dog grooming and dog walking, most recently canine nutrition. Dogs have consumed my life since day one. I have owned Borer Collies for 20 years, training and competing successfully in agility with my dogs for over 6 years. Owning high drive dogs that have come with their own challenges, dog training and studying canine behaviour has always  been a huge part of my life, and a life long dream to make it my job one day.

Paws in Unity was created to offer owners and their dogs a safe haven for learning new skills ethically and fear free. I want to encourage people to do more with their dogs, helping them enjoy learning together. I have worked with many dog trainers over the years, most of them positive experiences, but not all unfortunately. Those life experiences have taught me there is no place for force and fear in dog training.

I’m proud to say I teach dog’s ethically and with kindness. I give dogs choice, and my focus is on the welfare of your dogs.  I will not promote quick fixes or opt for aversive tools or methods in order to see results. I look at the whole picture. Including possible signs of pain, mental and physical well-being, the environment and your dog’s overall history, in order to form a well educated, thought out plan tailored to the individual.

As a Dog Trainer I am not only here to teach dogs new skills, a big part of what I do is supporting owners through their training journey. Going through behavioural challenges with your dog isn't easy, having a nonjudgmental, supportive coach that has likely lived through the same struggles is invaluable.

No matter what it is you need help with I want to see you succeed. Helping pet parents achieve their dreams with their dogs is truly my passion.
